The East Aurora Cooperative Market is a member-owned, democratically operated retail food store in the heart of the Village of East Aurora. EACM is open to all and supported and strengthened by its growing number of member-owners.
As a retail food co-op, we are part of our local community as we serve the Southtowns area. We are also part of a regional and even international community of cooperative businesses. In the U.S. alone, there are over 29,000 co-ops! Americans hold 350 million co-op memberships, providing over 850,000 jobs and creating more than $74 billion in annual wages with revenue of nearly $500 billion!
Co-ops exist in many forms: retail food co-ops, credit unions, worker co-ops, energy co-ops, housing co-ops and more. Examples of co-ops in Western New York include Lexington Co-op, Urban Roots, Nickel City Housing Co-op, Bread Hive, Great Erie Federal Credit Union to name just a few. There are also some new worker co-ops-in-the-making. Did you know that Ace Hardware, REI and Organic Valley are examples of familiar cooperatives?
